August 2024
On 29th August, the Parawa Ag Bureau hosted a highly informative farm composting workshop, featuring Chris Ellery, General Manager and CEO of SoilFoodweb Institute Australia. Held at the Myponga Sellicks Football Club, the event attracted 38 attendees keen to learn about composting techniques and practices. Supported by the South Australian Drought Resilience Adoption and Innovation Hub and Landscapes Hills and Fleurieu, the workshop provided attendees with valuable insights into composting and its role in enhancing farm productivity.
Chris Ellery’s presentation covered a wide range of topics, including the different compost source material options, how to compost effectively, the benefits of compost application, and ways to optimise composting systems. His wealth of knowledge in composting, vermicomposts, and compost teas engaged the audience, who actively participated in the Q&A session that followed.
Attendees enjoyed morning tea and lunch while engaging in discussions about the potential for composting to improve soil health on their farms. Many left inspired and eager to apply what they had learned to future composting initiatives on their properties.
This event was a great success, and the Parawa Ag Bureau extends its thanks to Chris Ellery for his expertise and to the South Australian Drought Hub and Landscapes Hills and Fleurieu for their support.
